Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning
Introduction to the Artifact
In my EDUC 537 course, I conducted an evaluation of the California Common Core State Standards and Framework for the subject of mathematics for grades K-5th. This connects to CSTP #3 as I was able to analyze the layout and organization of the standards and framework as well as the scope, sequence, and articulation of said documents. There are many varied opinions and thoughts on the state standards and supporting documents, and my carrying out of this evaluation allowed me to discover for myself the positives and negatives of the system and content of math instruction. It granted me the opportunity to look within my own skills and philosophy as well to decipher how I would go about organizing subject matter within the bounds of the state requirements. I grew substantially through both the course and through the completion of this evaluation.
